I am now two degrees from Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington!!
Yesterday afternoon I ran into a friend who invited me to dinner. She had a couple of houseguests from Italy who had invited their common friend, the famous-in-jazz-circles saxophonist George Coleman to be the guest of honor at a dinner they were preparing. Since it unexpected I was glad I wore a nice top and jewelry... but with schlocky jeans and clogs - fortunately it was very informal. We had some delicious anitpasti, then two different pastas - one with a tomato sauce and the other a carbonera (made without cream in the Italian manner), followed by salad and finally a chocolate ganache cake for desert; I even had a couple of glasses of wine, one white and then some red. I was stuffed - so much for portion control and mindful eating but it was worth it. The conversation was lively and the dinner ended up lasting three hours. I enjoyed myself immensely.
Oh yes about the two degrees - George was the sax player in "The Preacher's Wife".
Did the conversation turn to Whitney at any point? Not really. He mentioned she was a good singer but I got the impression he was sort of Whitney-ed out after weeks of such conversations. He did say Denzel came across as remote.
I never really took to DW after seeing him in that interview for UK Channel 4's The Word back in the day, with that young pregnant lady, can't remember her name now...blonde...damn this goldfish memory...she was really well known to.
It just came to me...she went to the States to interview DW when extremely preggers and as a gentleman I think he should have ignored that fact, but he came across rather creepy about it imho. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Word_(TV_series)
